Thomas Evans (Alpha Delta) 1919-2014


Thomas “Tim” Evans LORAIN – Thomas “Tim” Evans, 94, of Lorain, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.


Thomas was born December 29, 1919 in Muncy, PA. and had been a Lorain resident since 1952, having moved from Athens, OH.


He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a Naval Aviator in the Pacific Theater. Following the war Thomas graduated from Ohio University with a Masters Degree in Instrumental Music Education. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau and Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternities. He enthusiastically participated in the Ohio University Bands as a student, and also post graduation while teaching in the Athens area. While at Ohio University he also was a flight instructor and continued his passion for flying throughout his life.


Thomas was a private music instructor and instrumental music educator in the Lorain City Schools, retiring in 1980. He was especially proud of the instrumental music program and marching band he began at Admiral King H. S. in 1961. Leaving public education with over 30 years of service Thomas started a successful musical instrument repair shop, where he serviced customers across the state.


He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lorain, and a 65 year member of the Paramuthia Lodge F. & A.M. # 25, Athens, OH. He was also a member of the American Federation of Musicians, and played with the Union Band in Lorain, and area dance bands. Thomas organized The North Coast Saxophone Quartet, as well as The 3 Generations Saxophone Trio, and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians.


Left to cherish his memory is his childhood sweetheart and wife of 70 years, Betty Evans (nee Ames); son, Thomas (Linda) Evans of Spring Hill, FL; two daughters, Lynette Evans (Thomas Laurenti, dear and caring friend) of Avon and Bettina Evans (Allen Kauffman) of Vermilion; 7 grandchildren, Thomas III, Celeste, Curtis Jr., Elizabeth, Jackson, Misty, and Logan; and 11 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Ormand V. and Marie (nee Egli) Evans; son, Curtis Evans; and brother, Gene Evans.
